I recently encountred a book of myths around New england (where I live). In this book I read a story that sounded a heck of alot like corpse bride. It starts with a young lady by the name of Emily (Yes, just like in Corpse Bride!!) who falls in love with a man her parents dont want her to marry (like the Movie!!). So, the lovers plan to run off and elope (this is just getting scary). The one difference is the end. When her lover does not show, she kills herself(altrenate way of death). Everthing else matches, right down to the names! This story has been around longer than Tim Burtons Corpse Bride. Is it possible He heard the myth and took inspiration off it? |

Well in the Corpse Bride DVD, Tim did say that he got the inspiration from the book and wanted to film that, so he got the permission from the author if he could turn it into a film, the author said yes and the rest is history... _________________ Yes, Princess got me into the avatar adopt thing but it looked too cute! The Corpse Bride is based off an old jewish folktale about a man, who before his wedding, goes out drinking with friends and as a joke he places his ring on a branch and does the wedding jig around it. The branch is actually a corpse hand and now the bride actually thinks that she is married to the idiot. So the idiot's fiancee goes to the local church and askes the preist if the living can marry the dead. Just when he's about to answer, the idiot and the corpse bride come in. The preist says that the dead have no ties to the living so the corpse isn't really married to the idiot. The story ends with the corpse bride dieing in the fiancee's arms and the fiancee promising that she will live the corpse's dreams for her.
And this is from timburtoncollective.com
The Corpse Bride is a story based on actual events that occurred in 19th century Russia, at a time when anti-semitism was widespread in eastern Europe. Very often bands of anti-semites would waylay a Jewish wedding party on their way to the wedding. And because the bride would be the one to bear future generations, she would be ripped out of the carriage and murdered. She would then be buried in her wedding gown. _________________ Oh, I have hated and loved you

Wow, that's freaky! Sounds like the story there was alot of Tim's inspiration! I did hear that Tim took ideas from legends on the DVD, but the name coincidence is freaky. The alternate ending is to add up with the movie's events and climax of course, though. |
